The Benefits of seeing a Naturopath prior to becoming pregnant
Many women are not aware of the important factors essential to enable them the best chance to fall pregnant. Some of the basics are: the length of your cycle, when ovulation occurs, are you even ovulating, are you producing the right type of cervical mucus to provide a good passage for the sperm and which days should you be having sex. With some education around your cycle, this alone can improve your chances of a stress free conception. Some women and men may require an improved nutrient status, body composition or detoxification to improve fertility.
Healthy ova (eggs) and sperm take around 120 days to develop, therefore if you can start your preconception health strategy a minimum of four months prior to trying to conceive you will increase your chances of healthy conception.
Then there is the more technical issues regarding imbalanced hormones and/or hormonal disorders such as Infertility, Fibroids, Endometriosis and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). These are all issues that can be successfully treated with natural medicine and improve your chances of falling pregnant. Once establishing your hormone levels, through saliva or blood tests, an individualised treatment plan can be devised which can avoid the use of pharmaceutical drugs, assisted fertility management and in turn reduce stress and confusion. Natural medicine can also be used as a complementary treatment to conventional treatment such as pharmaceuticals, IVF and is necessary surgical procedures – your options are many.
You won’t know until you are already pregnant if you are going to experience morning sickness or not (my wish is for no one to experience this), however it is important to consider this. Your dietary aversions may leave you avoiding nutrient dense foods such as fruits, vegetables, salads and quality protein sources. This is why it is important to ensure your diet prior to conceiving is well rounded, high quality and the relevant supplements essential for conception are adequate to give you a buffer in case of morning sickness.
